Who Makes What
Kenmore is a Sears brand that is manufactured by other appliances companies. In the past, most Kenmore appliances were made by Whirlpool and some of their refrigerators were made by GE or White corp. Today it depends on which appliance you are talking about. A lot of their product is manufactured by LG. General Electric and Electrolux are making Kenmore products as well.
The companies that actually manufacture major appliances are Whirlpool, General Electric, LG, Samsung, Electrolux, Brown, Danby and Premeire. There are more but at least ninety percent of the appliance that you are going to see in the Midwest are going to be made by one of these companies. There are high end appliances as well such as DACOR, VIKING, Sub Zero and WOLFE. These are beautiful, very durable and long lasting appliances that range in price from $2500 for a microwave to $10,000 for a refrigerator.
White corp or White Westinghouse made Frigidaire and Kelvinator. They joined with Tappan and now all of these fall under Electrolux
General Electric has manufactured appliances for Kenmore, RCA and JCPenney. They make Hotpoint as their bargain appliance line.
Samsung makes Samsung and some appliances for Sears. The exact same thing can be said about LG.
Brown, Danby and Premiere are made in the USA. They don’t manufacture any other brand names to my knowledge. They tend to sell directly to Mega Stores like Menard’s or Home Depot.
Whirlpool makes Admiral, Crosley, Maytag, Jenn Aire, Kitchen Aide, Amana, Inglis, Roper, and more.
Maytag used to be a stand alone Corporation named Maycor. They manufactured Maytag, Magic Chef, Crosley, and Jenn Aire. In their final years, they acquired Amana. Before this happened Speed Queen was absorbed by Amana. Depending on the type of appliance and the year it was manufactured, it may have be a Maytag design with an Amana eblem or vice versa. Remember though that these names are now owned and manufactured in the USA by Whirlpool.
If you are reading this because you want to know what is the best appliance to buy, my advice would be as follows. Before you purchase it ask yourself what do you need it to do? How long do you want it to last? Or how long do you intend to keep it? If you are buying appliances to put in a house that you are about to sell, get the cheapest prettiest thing you can find? If you use the same cycles every time you wash and wash the same types of clothes every time you wash, you don’t need one with 9 cycles and three speeds. At the end of the day you work hard for your money get the one you like the most that your pocket agrees with. If you think about your needs before you go into a store you can save yourself a ton of cash. There are some pretty appliances out there these days so its easy to get exited and buy way more than you need. But, again I have never seen money fall out of the sky or appear in my pocket. If you settle you will wont be happy in the long run.
